First day Shaun. Take it easy now, won't you...

Well we're finally rolling! We left Everett at 6.30 and had a straightforward run out to Skykomish and then followed a beautiful river flowing by the side of the road. We had a large climb today up to Steven's Pass at 4,100ft. We climbed up the Iron Goat Trail through large Pine trees to the top and then steamed down the other side - 18 miles downhill!
Went through Leavenworth, a strange homage to Bavria (?) and then it got hot as we approached Wentachee. Very hot. It was virtually a desert and the temperature was in the hundreds. I coped alright, but it took a lot of water over my head and neck to keep going.
We were relatively fast today, despite everybody saying they were going to take it easy. I didn't feel too bad at the end, just a little hot. Had a great steak and a celebratory beer - first day accomplished.
Ready for the off!
On the Road...just the 3,350 miles to go
Top of the pass
This isn't even the hot part of the US...bugger.
